Avalanche Octane is live on mainnet, the first in a series of updates focused on performance improvements and optimizations to the C-Chain.
Driven by ACP-176, this update adopts a dynamic fee mechanism on the C-Chain, leading to lower transaction costs and improved efficiency during high transaction volume. The new system is designed to reduce gas fees and improve transaction throughput, particularly during periods of high network demand. By refining price discovery and enabling dynamic gas limits, Octane addresses inefficiencies like gas price spikes that could occur after large blocks, making transactions more predictable and cost-effective. This is part of Avalanche’s broader commitment to optimizing the C-Chain, which is the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchain within its ecosystem, tailored for smart contracts and decentralized applications. Further updates in the Octane series are expected to continue enhancing the C-Chain’s capabilities.
